These delicious Healthy gut, Protein Balls are a great snack that have the added benefit of Slippery Elm Powder which lines the gut wall and provides a nutritive, protective barrier which soothes and promotes healing.
The Healthy gut, Protein Balls are great for soothing and healing irritated gut linings as well as being particularly useful if you're planning a night out where you want to enjoy a few drinks, or eat spicy foods but don't want the "next day side effects".
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups of pitted dates
½ jar of organic natural peanut butter ( I used Mayver’s Protein Peanut Butter with hemp seeds)
1 cup of nuts (almonds, walnuts, whatever you prefer)
½ cup of organic cacao powder
1/3 cup of honey (or maple syrup if you are vegan)
3 heaped tablespoons of Slippery Elm powder (you can get this from the Chemist Warehouse or your local health food shop)
Water ….as required.
Method:
Place dates in a bowl & soak in boiling water for 10 minutes
Drain dates & place them with the nuts into a food processor & blend
Add the rest of the ingredients & blend a bit more until you get your preferred consistency (should be ‘dough-like’ & moist enough to roll into balls)
If the mixture is too dry, add small amounts of water until the right consistency is obtained
Roll into balls & keep in the fridge.
Roll in desiccated coconut, cacao powder or white or dark chocolate or enjoy plain 😊
